Sand and Waves

The Playa Pelada is a ten to fifteen-minute walk from Lagarta Lodge. Here, on the white sand beaches, visitors will see the colorful boats of the local fishermen, and can immerse themselves in the world of the Ticos. To the north and south, the beach is bordered by impressive cliffs. And Pelada, with its charming restaurants, is close by.

Playa Guiones is the southernmost beach in the region and an impressive seven kilometers long. Its location and geographical features cause the waves to swell to impressive peaks, making the beach one of the world’s best surfing beaches – and one of the most popular among surfers.

Playa Ostional is one of the world’s most important nesting grounds for the olive ridley sea turtle. It is a spectacular natural show when – mainly from July to December – innumerable turtles come once a month to lay their eggs. The young hatch 45 days after the “arribada” and crawl toward the water – yet another unique sight.

This is a gorgeous beach with white sand and clear water. It is made up of two beaches coming together. We can organize a tour for you. Otherwise you need a 4x4 car to get to the beach .

Playa Nosara is located below our eco-lodge. It originates in the delta of the Rio Nosara and the Rio Montaña, where the two rivers flow into the ocean. The main characteristic of the beach is its dark sand. The mouth of the river can only be crossed at low tide and is a popular fishing spot for the local population. Pelicans are also frequent visitors to the beach.

The beautiful beach of Garza with an impressive nature is located 10 km south of the Boutique Hotel Lagarta Lodge. The small town is considered the sport fishing center of the Nosara region and the starting point for individually organized boat tours. With a bit of luck, turtles, dolphins and even whales can be observed.
